Hiya girlies!
How’s the winter cold treating you? Well,
I’m loving it! Why? No break-outs this time, for the first time ever! But on a
more serious note, I think ‘ageing’ is setting in, and my skin is tending
towards dry/combination this season... Sigh!
Today I’m reviewing the TBS Tea-Tree oil. I
used it a few times when I WAS breaking out a few weeks back (feels soooo good
to say that, trust me!). Read on to know how it fared with me.
About The Body Shop Tea-tree oil*: Targeted care for blemished skin. Can be used direct on skin or for facial steaming.
- Soothing
- Has antibacterial properties
- Does not dry out skin
Price: Rs. 465 for 10mL
Packaging: The Body Shop Tea-tree oil comes
in a tiny glass bottle (of the size of an eye-drops bottle :p). The bottle is dark green in color, and has a white twist cap. the cap has an internal locking mechanism, which makes the packaging travel friendly. You need to press the cap downwards and then twist it 2-3 times to unlock and open the mouth of the bottle. So there's no way the product is leaking out in your hand-bag! Very intelligent!
Ingredients*: Water, Alcohol Denat., PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Polysorbate 20, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Limonene, t-Butyl Alcohol, Calophyllum Inophyllum Seed Oil, Citral, Leptospermum Petersonii (Lemon Tea Tree) Oil, Denatonium Benzoate, Tocopherol.

My take on The Body Shop Tea-tree oil: Well, I have always had very oily, acne-prone skin. All my life! Ever since my teens! And I have tried almost all solutions which I could, to get rid of the break-outs. But alas, nothing really worked! And then, 2-3 months back, I picked up this baby, and it worked like MAGIC! Yes, you read that right!
Wait, before I proceed, the oil is a very light green colored oil. The color is similar to the green color of the bottle. It was a little difficult to just get 1 drop on a swab and show you the swatch, since a drop alone was photographing clear, so I skipped the swatch here. You would need just 1 drop on a cotton swab/ q-tip to apply to the affected areas. Never take the product on your finger-tip, since you'd just end up contaminating thee fluid in the bottle. And if you have a lot of break-outs, just use both sides of the q-tip. The point here is hygiene (and I'm very finicky about it :P)
Coming to the effect, for a few initial applications, the tea-tree oil may cause mild tingling sensation, but nothing major. I used to apply this 2-3 times a day on the affected areas. When applied over-night, it worked very well at reducing pimple size, redness and inflammation. And with regular usage, the number of break-outs were controlled.
I also mix 1-2 drops of the oil with my face packs, and it works well at controlling break-outs and oil secretion on the face.
Please note that the product will not work very well if the pimple is filled with pus. The effect will be very slow, and such pimples have a different mechanism of dying down.

Pros of The Body Shop Tea-tree oil:
- Controls and treats pimples very effectively
- Does not irritate the skin (mild tingling, but nothing bothersome)
- Easy to carry
- Spill-proof packaging
Cons of The Body Shop Tea-tree oil:
- Price, if at all!
Verdict: MUST-HAVE if you have oily or acne-prone skin.
Rating: 10/10

ReplyDeleteTea Tree oil is great for oily, acne prone skin but you don't need to buy the Body Shop version. The generic version works just fine. After, oil is an oil. Try health stores and just make sure its pure and organic .
