Today I’m reviewing a hot pink lipcolor from Bobbi Brown… The shade is Calypso from the Creamy Matte range, from which I have already reviewed the shade Jenna. Read on to know my take on Calypso… Btw, aren’t these names interesting?
Price: Rs. 1390
Packaging: The Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte lip colors come in a very sleek black case, with the most cushiony swivel mechanism I’ve used. The case shuts with a soft snap, and it feels oh-so-luxurious to hold this in your hand… Plus, taking this out from the purse to do touch-ups in the mall/ office can turn a lot of heads… It is Bobbi Brown afterall! 😛
Ingredients: Mentioned below 🙂
My take on Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte lip color- Calypso: BB describes the shade as a ‘pink-coral’. The shade looks more like a hot-pink on most occassions, but under sunlight, you can definitely see a hint of coral in there! I do see some teenie-weenie bit of coppery
glitter shimmer sheen I dunno, a ‘very light sheen’ maybe in the lipcolor, which lends some ‘volume’ to the shade. It is otherwise a very pigmented lipcolor, one swipe gives you full coverage. It also has a faint sweet vanilla scent to it, which isn’t much perceptible once on the lips.
The texture is definitely (very lightly) creamy upon application, and it settles to a semi-matte finish in some time after application. I’ve noticed that Calypso is creamier than Jenna.. The texture feels comfortable for as long as it is on the lips. It is non-drying, though it doesn’t add much hydration of it’s own. With such bright colors, it is advisable to have lips in perfect condition (scrubbed and balmed) before application, coz a single small flake on the lips can mar the whole look! It doesn’t bleed from the lips, and once it sets to a semi-matte finish, it stays put! No budging, no moving!
Calypso survives small snacking and tea/ coffee. The staying power is about 4-5 hours which is very good, and it leaves behind some pinkish stain on the lips. I have no problems with that, since I have pigmented lips, and the stain gives me a re-assurance of sorts that my lips are never nak*d! I use a heavy-duty remover like the Clinique Take The Day Off cleansing balm to remove it completely. Any dual-remover would do too!
You can wear this shade in all it’s glory, or toned down by blotting, or as a stain. Any which way, it looks good.
The shade may not suit deeper complexions, though.
