Remember I shared a teaser post with you all about the new Avene Sunsitive Protection range of products a few days back (click for post)? Well, shortly after that, I left for a beach holiday, and carried these with me. So basically I have tested these on the most extreme weather conditions possible when it comes to summers, and here’s what I think!
Avene Very High Protection cream and emulsion- SPF 50+
Price: Rs. 1250 each (for 50mL)
Both these products come in a pump-dispenser squeezy tube, with a transparent cap. The packaging is travel friendly.
Both the products have a light texture, which is easy to apply and blend into the skin. Both are white in color, and leave a slight white cast on the skin initially, which goes away in a few minutes after application. You can thereafter apply your makeup. Since I have oily skin, I use the emulsion and it works fairly decently on my skin. Didn’t break me out or anything. But yes, it doesn’t keep the skin as matte as a gel-based sunscreen, which is what I mostly prefer when it comes to the face. That said, it definitely is water-proof, and doesn’t melt with sweating much.
Those with dry skin are going to like the cream a lot.
Avene High Protection lip balm- SPF 30
Price: Rs. 650 for 3g
A lip balm with SPF is something I really like, since I have pigmented lips anyways- so I need to protect them from further damage because of sun exposure. This lip balm is a non-greasy, transparent balm with a smooth texture. It keeps the lips hydrated and moisturised, and does not hinder the wearability of lipsticks over it. I love the fact that it has SPF in it! Must-have!
Avene Very High Protection spray- SPF 50+
Price: Rs. 2050 for 200mL
This is my favorite from this range! When I was in the Andamans, this spray bottle was always in my hand-bag. Yes, it is a little bulky to carry in the hand-bag at all times, but I just had to have this in my bag. This one too leaves a white cast, but on the arms and legs, I’m ok with it. The spray mechanism makes application very easy, and I look forward to re-applying this sunscreen. On an average, I need 3-4 spritzes on each of my arms, and a few more on each leg, and I’m done. Oh, and did I tell you, these are water-resistant to a major extent.
And while I have tanned during the vacation, I know for the fact that I haven’t tanned as much as my skin’s true potential to tan. I mean, I am someone who tans even with 2 minutes of skin exposure. So yeah, these products did save me from what could have been a whole lot of tanning to quite an extent. I do believe that nothing can save you 100% from tanning if you are out in the sun. Sunscreens help to an extent, yes!
