Clinique & Inglot haul

clinique take the day off

Hey everyone!

I happened to attend a fun meet at Clinique yesterday! Will update soon!

Apart from the make-over and other things at the store, the one thing I absolutely loved was the Clinique ‘Take The Day Off’ cleansing balm. Works like magic, really! I just HAD to buy it for myself, and off it went into my shopping bag!

Costs a bomb though! Rs. 2000! But that’s a huge tub, trust me!

Sleek Blush- Pomegranate: Review, swatches

Hey everyone!
I’m totally enjoying using blushes these days, and I almost always don’t step out of home without some color on the cheeks. Today I’m reviewing a gorgeous and wearable blush from Sleek, in the shade Pomegranate. I have already reviewed the shade Flushed from this range (check the review and swatches HERE, if you haven’t already!).

About Sleek Blushes: Highly pigmented blushers to brighten and define cheekbones, available in 10 shades. These silky-fine and long lasting blushers create a subtle and radiant glow and suit all skin tones.

Price: $5.99 + Shipping (comes down to Rs. 350-400) for 8g

Packaging: The Sleek blushes come packed in a black cardboard cover with the brand name et. al. written on it. The Blush case is a sleek black case, rectangular in shape complete with a huge mirror inside. The pack has no applicator (thankfully, since the applicators that usually come with products are useless). The case is a bit of a toughie to open up, one has to be very careful while opening the case. But this also means the case is travel friendly.

My take on Sleek Blush- Pomegranate: Pomegranate is a berry pink blush with a slight bluish undertone. You can see a hint of blue in the blush under a white light, but not when you look at the blush under natural light. The blush is highly pigmented, and you need to layer it slowly when applying on the face in order to avoid the ‘stamped-cheeks’ look. The powder has fine silver shimmer particles, which are not gritty but impart a glow to the skin. The powder blends easily into the skin, and is best applied with a fluffy blush/ kabuki brush.
It stays for about 6-7 hours easily, and doesn’t completely disappear for upto 8 hours. The shade Pomegranate will suit a lot of complexions, but those with very dark complexions (NC50 and above) will need to work with it for it to show on their skin, IMHO.

Pros of Sleek Blush- Pomegranate:
  • Highly pigmented
  • Smooth powder, very finely milled
  • Easy to apply and blend
  • Stays for almost the entire day
  • Lots of product in the pan
  • Travel friendly pack
  • Pocket-friendly price

Cons of Sleek Blush- Pomegranate:
  • Highly pigmented, so one can easily go over-board
  • Availability in India
  •       The case is a little difficult to open

Verdict: The shade Pomegranate is a gorgeous shade of pink-plum to own, and it works beautifully across a lot of skin-tones.

Purely Pro Blush- Lovely: Review, swatches

Heya lovelies!
Reviewing another Lovely product today from the February Vellvette box, this time a powder blush from the brand Purely Pro. Read on!
purely pro blush lovely

purely pro blush lovely review
About Purely Pro Blush- Lovely: Our soft blush powder comes in a special light texture which glides on smoothly and evenly. The sheer formula is lightweight and highly pigmented providing the perfect product to enhance the cheek bones and create contours. Purest ingredients. Long-lasting. Highly-pigmented. Professional quality. Not tested on animals.

Price: Rs. 1425 for 3.7g

Packaging: The Purely Pro Blush comes in a round case with a removable lid. Part of the lid is transparent, so you can see the shade of the blush inside if you have more than one shades from this range. The pack has no mirror or applicator inside, but I’m not complaining on that in any case.

Ingredients: Refer to the image below.

Ingredients list
How to use: To apply, swirl your brush across the surface of the blush and then tap lightly to dust off excess pigment. Lightly apply the blush from mid cheek to temple – tracing the cheekbone for a contoured look. Else smile and apply it to the apples of your cheeks for a more youthful look. If you’re not a blush user and don’t have a brush, don’t worry -your fingers, if used gently, can create an equally magical effect. Just make sure – you blend, blend, blend till you get the right amount of pigment.
My take on Purely Pro Blush- Lovely: The shade ‘Lovely’ is a coral-pink powder blush, with a hint of silver shimmer particles which impart a healthy glow to the skin without looking over the top. The shade looks like a warm pink in the pan, but translates to a peachy brown on my NC-45 skin tone.

The powder is finely milled, and well pigmented, and it blends easily on the skin. The shade is quite pigmented, so one needs to be careful with the amount of product that one picks up on the brush. It’s a little too powdery, so the first time I used this product, while I swooshed the blush brush into the pan, some product flew away, and I sneezed. So I now use it with much caution.

This blush offers a decent staying power of approx. 6 hours on my oily skin, around which time it slowly fades, but doesn’t disappear completely.

I have not experienced any break-outs or irritation with this product.

Pros of Purely Pro Blush- Lovely:

·         Smooth, pigmented powder

·         Imparts a natural glow to the skin

·         Decent staying power of ~6 hours

·         Does not irritate the skin

·         The shade will suit a lot of people, especially those with dusky complexion

Cons of Purely Pro Blush- Lovely:

·         Some fly-away is noticed

·         The price!

·         Availability in India

Verdict: If you like the shade, there’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t buy this blush. The shade ‘Lovely’ will suit a lot of people, since it is a warm shade with no prominent shimmer. It is apt for daily wear!

My take on Sleek MakeUp Blush- Flushed:Flushed is a gorgeous burnt red powder blush with a feeble hint of mauve. The powder is very finely milled, smooth to touch, and has some very fine silver shimmerin it, which is not OTT and gives an impression of glowing skin. The shade, I believe, would do justice to a wide range of complexions. On my dusky, NC-45 skin tone, it looks fab! It adds a little warmth to my complexion, and the face looks naturally blushing and flushed!
The powder is highly pigmented. In fact, Sleek blushes are the most pigmented powder blushes I have used till date. You need to be very careful with how much product you pick up on the blush brush, since you can easily go over-board with these pigmented products. It is advised that you start with a very little amount of product, and build the shade as desired. The blush powder goes on smooth onto the skin, and is very easy to blend. It stays for almost the whole day on my skin, though it does fade with time. I wear this shade to work quite often these days, and it lasts on me through the day. No irritation or rashes either. So this one is a clear winner for me!
The pack has a lot of product, and I doubt if I will ever be able to finish it up!

How to apply blush/ contour cheeks: Pictorial

Hiya!
Phew, I’m finally doing this much-awaited and much-requested tutorial on blush application and cheek contouring.
This tutorial could be re-named to ‘Where to apply blush’. In my opinion, applying blush is not as much about the procedure (how) as it is about the placement (where) of the blush. Apply it to the right spots, blend well, and you’re done!

                  cheek contouring and blush application
I am demonstrating cheek contouring here, which includes blush application and sculpting with make-up. If you just want to use a blush, go ahead, and skip the contour and highlighting shades.

cheek contouring and blush application (2)

You have to work with 3 products for contouring–
  • a dark contouring shade
  • a blush in the color of your choice
  • a highlighting shade
You will need the following brushes:
  • a round blush brush or an angled blush brush- for the blush
  • an angled brush- for the contour shade
  • a fan brush- for the highlighting shade
Steps-
1. Understand the natural contour of your face. Each one of us has a different face cut, and hence the old-fashioned rule of placing the blush onto the apples of the cheeks (which makes everyone look like a clown!) does not suit everyone!
2. The most important step is to determine the lines and area of placement of products onto the skin:
Use the first two fingers of your hand as a guide- place the base of the first finger (marked A) around the corner of the lips. Next, place the tip of the index finger (marked B) near the outer corner of the eye, and the tip of the middle finger (marked C) along the middle of the ear. This forms a V-shape on the face. The blush goes into the V, the contour below it and the highlight above it. Simple!

cheek contouring and blush application (3)
Still confused? Pick up any pencil and place it along the same lines. You will get to know the approximate areas of application for the products, one at a time. Look into the mirror carefully to know the approximate lines.

cheek contouring and blush application (4)

    3. Once you roughly know where to place what product as per the above steps, you need to start applying. Now, the area of application is different for each product. Imagine a line running down from the outer part of the eyebrow till the jaw.
    a. The blush is to be applied on both sides of the line.
    b. The contouring shade is to be applied from the ear upto the line
    c. The highlighting shade is to be applied starting from the line, upto an inch of the area. (roughly, just below the eye)
The below picture will make it clear.

cheek contouring and blush application (5)

To apply products, just pick up some product onto the right brush, sweep it onto the area of application, and blend it well using the brushes.
    The end result:

I hope I was able to explain things to you properly here, and you were able to make some sense out of the lines and circles in the pictures.
PS: The pictures here demonstrate blush application/ contouring for every-day makeup, and not necessarily party make-up. You can apply more product, blended well, of course, for events.
PPS: Pictures have been edited, since this post is not about a specific product and it’s review.

Do let me know how you found the post. I am very curious for your feedback on this post. Please leave a comment below.
    Thanks 🙂

    A small Sleek haul!

    Hello everyone!
Here’s sharing with you all a few things that I recently bought from Sleek, along with my friend Lee (you all know her by now, don’t you?)

So, we bought a total of 4 products, as below:
    1. Powder blush- Rose Gold (by Lee)
    2. Powder blush- Pomegranate
    3. Powder blush- Flushed
    4. Face Contour kit
    Sleek blush- Rose Gold
    Sleek blush- Flushed
    Sleek blush- Pomegranate
    Sleek Face Contour Kit
Some more details on shopping with Sleek:
    • The blushes cost $5.99 each, and the Face contour kit costs $8.49: totally affordable
    • The total shipping charge on 4 items was a meagre $3.37. So very affordable. Usually, high shipping charges de-motivate me from shopping from international sites.
    • Payment was done by Debit Card (so Credit Card/ Paypal account is not compulsory)
    • We received out order in 5 days flat, including weekend! Impressed again!
    • Items were shipped by Royal Mail, and no tracking number was provided.
    • All items were bubble wrapped, and in perfect condition when I received them
    • No customs duty was charged in Delhi (because the total bill was quite less, and the package was marked ‘Gift’– someone recently told me that for packages marked ‘Gift’, the Customs Deptt. does not usually charge Duty)
    • I loved shopping from Sleek, and I’d love to shop from them in the future too, and I do recommend the site to you all.
