Burt’s Bees Replenishing lip balm with Pomegranate Oil: Review

Hey everyone!

Today I’m reviewing my current favorite lip balm, Burt’s Bees Replenishing lip balm with Pomegranate Oil. Bought it from Sephora a few months back, and after having used it for more than 2 months now, here’s my review on the same.
PS: I love this lip balm!

About Burt’s Bees Replenishing lip balm with Pomegranate Oil: Bring your lips back to beautiful. This replenishing and hydrating natural lip balm is infused with the antioxidant goodness of pomegranate oil. It replenishes moisture to reveal smooth, healthy lips, while it coats them with a hint of color for an even-toned appearance.

Price: Rs. 400 for 4.25g

Packaging: The Burt’s Bees lip balm (Replenishing) come in a sleek yellow coloured twist-up tube, with a pomegranate colored cap. I prefer lip balms in tubes as opposed to potted products for reasons of hygiene! The cap is quite sturdy, shuts with a click, and hence the packaging is travel friendly.

My take on Burt’s Bees Replenishing lip balm with Pomegranate Oil: The lip balm is a pomegranate colored product, which swatches almost transparent. It has a soft, smooth consistency, but not as gooey and buttery like most other lip balms. I mean, it’s neither too stiff/ waxy, nor too balmy. It is something in between, and that’s what makes me love it! I do not like waxy lip balms which spread all around the lips a few minutes after application. So I love this Burt’s Bees lip balm on that front. The balm stays on the lips overnight, or for around 4 hours during the day. I’m okay with re-application, till the time it does what it claims. And, it does what it claims! It does make the lips feel soft and hydrated, and I have not had any problem of flaking lips (sometimes, Maybelline lip balms give me flaky lips when I apply too much). If I apply it at night, I wake up with soft lips the next morning. I do not have severely chapped lips (since I almost always use a lip balm, and drink enough water to keep the skin hydrated too), so I cannot say how it will work for those with severely chapped lips, but I’m pretty sure it won’t disappoint with severely chapped lips too. On  everyday wear-and-tear of the lips, it works fine with repairing the delicate skin on the lips.
The all natural ingredients add weightage to the ‘pros’. The light fruity fragrance is nice too, though it fades away in a few minutes after application, and does not bother my sensitive nose!
I just don’t see ANY color on swatching this lip balm, contrary to the claims :\

Do you see any color there? 😛

Pros of Burt’s Bees Replenishing lip balm with Pomegranate Oil:

  • Smooth, soft consistency, not waxy!
  • Applies easily
  • Repairs lips and keeps them hydrated
  • Does not bleed out of the lips
  • Light fruity fragrance
  • Tube-type packaging makes application easy, non-messy!

Cons of Burt’s Bees Replenishing lip balm with Pomegranate Oil:

  • I see no color!
  • Limited availability in India (only at Sephora, New Delhi right now)

Verdict: An almost must-have lip balm, go for it if you prefer non-gooey products on the lips. It is, though, a little over-priced in India, as compared to it’s price abroad. So, take your call on the price. It does it’s job well, no doubts about that! So far, this is one of the best lip balms I’ve used. Also, my current favorite!

Ingredients: polyisobutene, ricinus communis seed oil, octyldodecanol, pentaerythrityl tetraisostearate, hydrogenated polydecene, candelilla cera, myristyl myristate, butyrospermum parkii butter, cera microcristallina, isopropyl palmitate, synthetic wax, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, polyglyceryl-3 diisostearate, butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane, prunus amygdalus dulcis oil, simmondsia chinensis oil, mangifera indica fruit juice, citrus aurantifolia fruit juice, tocopheryl acetate, vitis vinifera seed oil, bisabolol, blycerin, mica, propylene glycol, aqua, neohesperidin dihydrochalcone, bht, silica, citric acid, trideceth-9, limonene, eugenol, linalool, benzyl salicylate, geraniol, parfum, ci 77891, ci 15850, ci 15985, ci 77499.

My take on Nivea Fruity Shine Lip Balm- Cherry: In a nutshell, I love this product 😀
The lip balm is a soft, easy to apply balm with a cushiony feel to it. The texture is smooth. You can see some glitter particles in the tube (with flash light, mostly), which are not gritty at all. They lend a soft sheen to the lips, which gives an impression that you are wearing a gloss. The balm is not too oily, so it doesn’t bleed outside the lips (I prefer my lip balms to be a little less oily). It has a faint cherry fragrance, which withers off in about 10 minutes.
The added reddish tint is what makes this my go-to product this season. It offers light coverage, the tint is quite light. Just slather this balm in 2 swipes onto the lips, and I get light reddish tint/ coverage, and glossy, moisturised lips. The moisturisation and/ or staying power is a good 2-2.5 hours, after which the glossiness fades, but the lips don’t become overtly dry. I generally re-apply every 3 hours.
Sometimes, I wear this balm at night, before sleeping, and I wake up with soft lips the next morning.
The SPF-10 is an added bonus!

Swatch, single swipe
Pros of Nivea Fruity Shine Lip Balm- Cherry:
  • Smooth texture, soft to apply
  • Not a slimy balm (I prefer it this way). I hate ‘oily-oily sticky sticky’ feeling on my lips
  • Reddish tint imparts some color
  • Micro glitter particles impart a soft sheen to the lips
  • SPF-10, so it protects the lips from the sun!
  • Decent moisturisation for 2-2.5 hours
  • Cherry based light fragrance, stays for about 10 minutes after application
  • Cute packaging
  • Affordable

Cons of Nivea Fruity Shine Lip Balm- Cherry:
  • Lots of chemicals in there!

Verdict: The Nivea Fruity Shine balm is a good quality product at it’s price. It does what it claims. A light tint, moisturisation and good staying power! This is one product I’d highly recommend for school/ college going girls.

Figs and Rouge- Aloe and Mint balm: review, swatches

Hey everyone!

I’m reviewing the much-awaited and much talked about balm today, the Figs & Rouge Aloe and Mint balm which everyone got in the February Vellvette box (read this post for details). Read on for more!

figs & rouge aloe and mint balm

figs & rouge aloe and mint balm review
About Figs & Rouge Aloe and Mint balm: If you’ve been looking for a great multitasking product, voila! This one’s probably the greatest multitasking product to ever feature on the international beauty box scene – Figs & Rouge Aloe and Mint Balm. Perfect for those lips that chap and peel, cuticles that go haywire, skin that itches and burns, feet that embarrass and eyebrows that just can’t stay in shape! And best of all, it’s 100% natural, organic and petroleum free – no restrictions on how many times you can use it!

Price: Rs. 549 for 17mL

Packaging: The Figs & Rouge Aloe and Mint balm comes packed in a small round tub with a lid. The tub is pale green in color, small and cute, and can easily fit into the purse. Because of the tub packaging, one needs to scoop out some product each time to avoid contamination of product in the tub.

Ingredients: Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil, Butyrospermum, Parkii Fruit Butter, Cera Alba, Mentha Piperita Leaf Oil, Aloe Barbandesis Fruit Juice, Limonene Linalool.

How to use: Carry this in your purse and let your creativity go wild! Apply on lips to hydrate them and also use as base to make your lipstick last longer – your cuticles to keep them looking tip top. Use it to hydrate dry skin on face, hands, arms or legs – will not leave your skin sticky at all. Use it at night to treat cracked or dry feet. It’s also a great eyebrow shaper – apply a tiny bit to keep the brows in shape all day long
figs & rouge aloe and mint balm swatch
My take on Figs & Rouge Aloe and Mint balm: The Figs & Rouge Aloe and Mint balm is an off-white coloured, thickly set balm in a tub, which melts off a bit in the tub. It has a minty fragrance to it, which fades off a few minutes after application. On coming in contact with the warm skin of the fingers, you can feel the product going soft under the skin. So I’m sure one cannot travel with this tub in the bag in the Delhi summers.

The product otherwise is very easy to use. It spreads on the skin easily, and is a true multi-tasker. You can use it on the lips, dry cuticles, heels, etc. on the lips, it stays for about 1.5-2 hours, after which I need to re-apply it. It does lead to temporary minty cool sensation on the lips, which is great for summers.

My favourite way of using this balm is for the nail cuticles at night. Just apply a wee bit of the balm to the area around the nails, and next morning, you wake up with smooth skin and cuticles. It also works well on rough skin around the elbows, etc.

I haven’t tried it on the heels, to be able to comment on that.

Pros of Figs & Rouge Aloe and Mint balm:

·         Smooth product, easy to use

·         Imparts a temporary cooling sensation

·         Heals the skin when used over-night (tried on nails and cuticles)

·         100% organic

·         Multi-tasker product

Cons of Figs & Rouge Aloe and Mint balm:

·         Does not work too well as a lip balm. I have used better products.

The balm is prone to melting, so it’s not a good idea to carry this in the handbag in our kinda climate
·         Tub packaging raises hygiene concerns

·         Availability in India

Verdict: Overall, I feel it’s a good product to have, but not a must-have! Works well for the cuticles and rough skin, but not great for the lips.

Rating: 8.5/10

Packaging: The Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm- Anti-oxidant Berry comes sealed in a small cardboard and plastic packaging. The lip-balm as such is packed in a tube, with a twist-up mechanism. The tube is of a baby-blue color, and the writing on it and the cap are of a light berry-pink color. The twist-up screw on the bottom spreads out a bit from the actual tube, which makes it very easy to grip it and twist. I really like this fact, since I normally have to struggle with screw-bottoms when in hurry. Tube-type packagings are always preferred over tub-types for reasons of hygiene and portability.

Shade/ texture/ fragrance: Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm- Anti-oxidant Berry is a clear lip balm, though in the tube it has a light pink tint. It has a bubble-gum type fragrance, and I have to resist myself from eating it up. The texture is really smooth and buttery, but is not very gooey like the Maybelline Lip Smooth lip balms. I find baby Lips lip balms to be better.

(The Mango Pie version is also clear. There are 5 other shades which are tinted in this range)

Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm- Anti-oxidant Berry (9)
Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm- Anti-oxidant Berry swatch

My experience with Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm- Anti-oxidant Berry: Baby lips, anybody? This balm does what it claims! I love the texture, the fragrance, and the fact that it is clear (I like my lip balms to be clear, since they can be used over matte lipsticks during the day, without altering the shade underneath. The balm is easy to carry, and also easy to use (refer packaging above). It keeps lips hydrated and soft for around 4-5 hours, and makes them soft from the first use itself. An SPF of 20 is an added advantage. The fragrance is good, but not too strong to bother my sensitive nose, and it stays for around 5 minutes after application.

Pros of Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm- Anti-oxidant Berry:

·        Moisturises lips well

·        Staying power is around 4 hours

·        Smooth texture

·        Clear balm (I prefer it this way)

·        SPF-20

·        Cute fragrance

·        Nice packaging

·        Affordable price

Cons of Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm- Anti-oxidant Berry:

·        None!

Verdict: Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm- Anti-oxidant Berry is a must-buy, especially if you love clear lip balms! These babies are cute!!!

Elle-18 Color Pops- Pinken: Review and swatches

Guest post by Sakshi

Hey ladies…!!

Well, let me start off by telling you all that I am relatively new in this beautiful n fascinating world of makeup… And that is thanks to my bestie Ritu…!!

So here goes my first review… Today I am reviewing a nice soft pink shade from Elle 18 color pops range, Pinken.

Elle-18 Color Pops- Pinken

About Elle-18 Color Pops- Pinken: A blast of color with punch of Cocoa. The intense moisturizing core in the center protects and cares for your lips.

Packaging: This lippie comes in a cute black case.

The packaging

Price: Rs.100 for 4.3 ml.

Shelf life: To be used before 30 months from the date of packaging.

Elle-18 Color Pops- Pinken (1)

My experience with Elle-18 Color Pops- Pinken: Firstly, these lipsticks are really really light on the pocket. Secondly, this range offers a great variety of shades to choose from, and I guess at such a low price you can have all of them even if you use It only once! They can very well be used as a tinted lip balm!!

Elle-18 Color Pops- Pinken swatches
Swatches

I think Pinken is a pretty good pick for beginners..!! This one is my daily wear office shade. And I totally feel comfortable in it. It has good moisturizing properties and does not leave the lips feeling dry. It glides on smoothly on the lips and gives them a beautiful shine .You wouldn’t need a lip balm under this for sure however dry your lips may be!

The staying power, however, is just 2 to 3 hours. Also, it has a tendency to settle into fine lines. But I guess that is okay for a price that you get it for. I mean what else would you expect at such price..!

It also has a mild fragrance but I don’t really mind that..!

Another important point is that it is not very pigmented. In one swipe it seems more or less like a pink tinted lip balm. However, in 2-3 swipes it gives you a more rosy pinky shade. It is not a bright shade at all but covers the pigmentation to some extent.

Pros of Elle-18 Color Pops- Pinken:

·        Really cost effective..!

·        Wide variety of shades available.

·        Perfect daily wear pink shade-pinken..!

·        Has moisturizing qualities

·        Glides on smoothly

·        Easy availability

Cons of Elle-18 Color Pops- Pinken:

·        Not very pigmented

·        Settles into fine lines.

·        Average staying power

Verdict:

Well, for a pink lover like me, this is a really good shade, and it doesn’t hurt even if you will have to do touch-ups every 2-3 hours. It is well worth the price. I am gonna try all shades. I guess all new enthusiasts should.

Rating: 8/10

I hope you liked the review!

Cheers ladies….!!

Till next time!

The Body Shop Vitamin- E Lip Care SPF-15: Review

Hi everyone! I’m reviewing the best lip balm that I have used till date. It is The Body Shop Vitamin- E Lip Care SPF-15 lip balm. Read on to know more.

The Body Shop Vitamin- E Lip Care

About The Body Shop Vitamin- E Lip Care SPF-15*: This moisturising lip balm soothes and protects lips from the drying effects of the sun, wind and cold weather

·         Soothes dry lips

·         With SPF 15

Price: Rs. 255 for 4.2g

Packaging: The Body Shop Vitamin- E Lip Care SPF-15 comes packed in a simple twist-up tube, which is of a light pink color. The cap is a translucent white, and shuts securely. The tube is very convenient to use, and carry in the bag. Also, I like tube packaging for lip-balms as opposed to tub packaging, for reasons of hygiene.

The Body Shop Vitamin- E Lip Care (2)
Ingredients*: Ricinus communis (Castor Oil) (Emollient), Hydrogenated Coconut Oil (Emollient/Hair Conditioner), Olea europaea (Olive Oil) (Emollient), Cera Alba (Beeswax) (Emulsifier/Emollient), Candelilla Cera (Candelilla Wax) (Stabiliser), Octyl Methoxycinnamate (Sunscreen), Benzophenone-3 (Oxybenzone) (Sunscreen), Cocos nucifera (Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil) (Emollient/Hair Conditioner), Tocopheryl Acetate (Antioxidant), Calendula officinalis (Calendula Extract) (Natural Additive), Vanilla planifolia (Vanilla Extract) (Natural Additive), Ammonium Glycyrrhizate (Flavour), Echinacea purpurea (Coneflower) (Natural Additive), Tocopherol (Antioxidant).

The Body Shop Vitamin- E Lip Care ingredients
Texture/ fragrance: The balm is off-white in color in the tube, but applies transparent. It is a bit hard in consistency, i.e. it isn’t buttery soft, but it’s not too hard to hurt. Just that it’s not mushy like other lip-balms. It has a mild vanilla fragrance, which stays for around 5 minutes.

The Body Shop Vitamin- E Lip Care swatch
My experience with The Body Shop Vitamin- E Lip Care SPF-15: This is by far the best lip balm that I’ve ever tried. It’s very moisturising, and I only apply it twice a day, once in the morning, and once at night, and it keeps my lips hydrated for the rest of the day or night. Earlier I used to apply lip balm every 4-5 hours, but with this one, my life is sorted, atleast in terms of lip-care. Also, the mild fragrance is very pleasant. Please note that I do not have very dry lips. I wear it under lipsticks everyday, and it does not lead to fading/ slipping of the lipstick at all.

It also has some SPF content in it, so it’ll save the lips from the sun. What more can one want from a lip-balm? And for all that it does, I find the price to be completely justified!

Pros of The Body Shop Vitamin- E Lip Care SPF-15:

·         Convenient and hygienic packaging

·         Very moisturising

·         Keeps the lips hydrated for upto 8 hours

·         Mild vanilla fragrance

·         Can be worn under lipstick, without leading to the fading of lipstick

·         It has SPF-15

Cons of The Body Shop Vitamin- E Lip Care SPF-15: None.

Verdict: The Body Shop Vitamin- E Lip Care SPF-15 is a must-have for everyone! Do give it a try.
