Sephora Express Dry Shampoo: Review

Hey everyone!

Today I’m going to review my first-ever dry shampoo, the Sephora Express Dry Shampoo. Dry shampoos have been around for a while now, and are basically to absorb oil from the greasy scalp on a lazy-day when you don’t feel like shampooing, and save your time, yet make your hair look presentable.

Beaver 3+ Nutri Sculpt Mousse: Review

Hey everyone!
Today I’m reviewing a hair mousse. I have thin textured hair, which is apparently dry, but too silky to stay-put with pins, and for hairstyles. Yes, I have a hard time creating everyday hairstyles because my hair has a mind of it’s own. It refuses to get styled. I have given in now, but occassionally, I do like to use certain hair styling products to keep my hair tamed. Read on to know if Beaver 3+ Nutri Sculpt Mousse was good enough for my kinda moody hair!
beaver 3+ nutri sculpt mousse review

Ingredients: Refer to the image below.

My take on Beaver 3+ Nutri Sculpt Mousse: Well, it’s been long since I bought this product, and I’ve used it a couple of times only, to be very honest. I think the reason why I’m not madly in love with the product is because it does not have a strong hold on the hair, and also, the hair tend to feel drier than normal the next day.
The mousse is a light, airy product, which when spread onto palms, turns to a watery consistency. Easy to use and apply, it is best suited for styles where you need volume. It does volumise hair at the roots when applied and spread properly. Dries up quickly, and leaves no residue on the hair. The hair becomes stiff to touch (which is what you want when you use a mousse), and stays that way till the next day (but the style won’t stay as it is for long).
Now I reckon that the can says- for medium to coarse texture hair- and my hair is very thin, so maybe it’s not the right product for my hair type.

beaver 3+ nutri sculpt mousse swatch

Pros of Beaver 3+ Nutri Sculpt Mousse:

  • Easy to use
  • Holds hair for various hairstyles
  • Helps add volume to hair
  • Does not have a repulsive fragrance like most hairstyling products
  • Alcohol free
  • Available online easily
  • Decently priced

Cons of Beaver 3+ Nutri Sculpt Mousse:

  • I would have preferred a stronger hold on hair
  • Dries out the hair a bit
  • Not too good for those with thin hair texture

Verdict: Well, if you have thick hair, try it out. If you have thin hair like mine, skip! But yes, it does dry out the hair a wee bit.

Rating: 7/10

The Body Shop Rainforest Moisture Conditioner- Review, swatch

Hey everyone!
Yesterday I reviewed the TBS Rainforest Balance conditioner (read review HERE). I use it since I have an oily scalp. But the rest of my hair is dry, so for conditioning the hair, I am currently using the TBS Rainforest MOISTURE conditioner, which is meant for  dry hair. Read on to know my take on this product!

the body shop rainforest moisture conditioner

About The Body Shop Rainforest Moisture Conditioner: Conditions to help restore moisture and improve the hair’s softness without weighing it down, for a smooth and shiny finish. No silicones, no parabens and no colourants.
For dry and damaged hair.

Cruelty free 🙂
Price: Rs. 515 for 250mL. Now, the prices have been increased to about 700 bucks!

Packaging: The Body Shop Rainforest Moisture Conditioner comes in a tall bottle which is opaque, off-white in color. The opaque nature of the bottle makes it difficult to gauge the amount of product left inside. The bottle has a flip-top opening, which is a little flimsy. I always have to dig my nails under the opening to flip the top, dreading my nails would break some day! It is nevertheless a travel friendly bottle.

Ingredients: Aqua, Cetearyl Alcohol, Distearoylethyl Hydroxyethylmonium Methosulfate, Cocos Nucifera Oil, Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil, Citric Acid, Cetyl Esters, Sodium Benzoate, Parfum, Hydroxypropyl Guar, Schinziophyton Rautanenii Kernel Oil, Salicylic Acid, Mel, Pentaclethra Macroloba Seed Oil, Tocopherol.

Shelf life: 12 months after opening

Directions for usage:For best results, mix in the hands with water. Work through hair from root to tip.

the body shop rainforest moisture conditioner paraben silicone colorant free

My take on The Body Shop Rainforest Moisture Conditioner: The conditioner is a white product, with a not-too-thin-not-too-thick consistency. The moment the conditioner is applied to wet hair, it feels as if the hair strands just drink up the product! It gets dispensed from the bottle without much struggle and is easy to use. It has a strong smell, which I really do not like. I cannot identify what it smells like, but I do not like it at all. Thankfully the fragrance does not stay for long.

Coming to the efficacy, I have a feeling this conditioner does not do much for my dry hair (barring the scalp). I mean, it decently moisturises the hair strands, but my hair left asking for more. It controls frizz to some extent, but again, I’m not 100% satisfied! The hair does become soft(er) to touch, and the conditioner does not weight he hair down, as claimed. I cannot say whether it is THIS conditioner or some other products I’m using these days, but the number of split ends is a little less currently. So I’m happy on that front too!

It is easy to wash off from the hair, and detangles the hair too, so they are easy to comb afterwards.

the body shop rainforest moisture conditioner review

Pros of The Body Shop Rainforest Moisture Conditioner:

·         Smooth, creamy conditioner

·         Easy to use

·         Decently moisturises the hair

·         Detangles

·         Does not weigh down the hair

·         No parabens, colorants, silicones, etc.

Cons of The Body Shop Rainforest Moisture Conditioner:

·         I wish it moisturised the hair and controlled frizz better!

·         The price has sky-rocketed! I wish our share markets also follow suit!

Verdict: A so-so conditioner for dry hair! If you have very dry hair, look for something else!

Rating: 7.9/10

The Body Shop Rainforest Balance Shampoo: Review, swatch

Hey everyone!
Today I’m reviewing the ‘Balance’ shampoo from The Body Shop’s Rainforest range of hair-care products. I have oily scalp and dry hair (combination hair type, eh?). My scalp is so very oily that I have to shampoo every alternate day. And by the next day’s evening, I can see the hair clumping to each other around the nape of the neck, demanding shampooing again! So I picked up the ‘Balance’ shampoo for my oily scalp. Read on to know my experience with this shampoo.

About The Body Shop Rainforest Balance shampoo: Cleanses to reduce excess oil for hair that looks clean and fresh all day.

·        No silicones, no sulphates, no parabens and no colourants

·        For oily hair.

Price: I bought it in January, when the price was Rs. 515 for 250mL. Now the prices have been raised, and this bottle costs approx. Rs. 700 L

Packaging: The TBS Rainforest shampoos come in a tall plastic bottle, which is of a translucent blackish color. The bottle has a translucent white cap with a flip-top opening. It is a travel friendly, and an eco-friendly bottle.

Shelf life: 12 months after opening

Directions for usage:Mix a small amount in the hands with water to create lather. Massage into the scalp and rinse thoroughly. Follow with Balance Conditioner.

My take on The Body Shop Rainforest Balance shampoo: The Rainforest Balance shampoo has a runny, thin consistency. It is a transparent liquid, with a faint fragrance, which you will associate with ‘bamboos and greens’. I am not too fond of the fragrance, but it’s not bothersome, to say!

The shampoo lathers very lightly, since it does not have sulphates and silicones. Also, for my oily scalp, I feel it is not the best shampoo. It is meant for oily hair, but it does not remove all the natural oil from the scalp in a single wash. If I shampoo once, my hair ends up being oily the very next day. So either I have to shampoo daily, or shampoo twice each time I have to wash my hair. Both these methods are practically time consuming L

But wither way I use it, the shampoo does not dry out my hair, though I do feel the need to condition the hair afterwards. So I always follow it up with a conditioner.

Overall, I am not highly impressed, though I am not dissatisfied either.

the body shop rainforest balance shampoo swatch

Pros of The Body Shop Rainforest Balance shampoo:

·        Smooth, runny shampoo, easy to dispense from the bottle.

·        Easy to use

·        Lathers mildly (proof that it is SLS and silicone-free)

·        No parabens, colorants

·        Does not dry out the hair

·        Travel friendly bottle

Cons of The Body Shop Rainforest Balance shampoo:

·        Since it lathers less, you may not be psychologically satisfied with the shampoo experience

·        Does not effectively remove all the natural oil from the hair in one go!

·        You may need to shampoo twice each time, or shampoo daily if you have oily scalp

·        Need to use a conditioner after shampooing

·        Prices have been increased

Verdict: I’m not particularly impressed, since it is not very good at removing oil from the hair.

Dove Intense Repair shampoo and conditioner- Review

Hi girls!!!
Today I’m reviewing the Dove Intense Repair shampoo and conditioner. Since I never use a shampoo without the conditioner from the same range, I feel it is better to review the whole range together, rather than reviewing the individual products. So here’s the review for the Dove intense repair products.

Dove Intense Repair Shampoo

About Dove Intense Repair shampoo:

Price: Rs. 123 for 200mL

Packaging: The shampoo comes in a white, curvy plastic bottle, with a flip-top cap. The packaging is simple, chic and easy to travel with.

Ingredients and directions for usage:

Texture/ consistency/ fragrance: The shampoo has a runny consistency, though not very runny. It is smooth, texture wise, and on a closer look, the shampoo seems to have some shimmer particles to it. I wonder why a shampoo has shimmer particles, but never mind! They do not stick to the hair. The fragrance is nothing to boast about. It smells like a ‘shampoo’ usually does. Can’t describe here.

Dove Intense Repair Conditioner

About Dove Intense Repair conditioner:

Price: Rs. 64 for 90mL

Packaging: The conditioner is housed in an inverted, squeezy tube, which is white in color. The tube has a flip-top cap, and is again easy to carry.

Ingredients and directions for usage:

Texture/ consistency/ fragrance: The conditioner is white in color, and of thick consistency (see above pic), and is easy to use. Smells similar to the shampoo.
My experience with Dove Intense Repair shampoo and conditioner: I started using this range at a time when my hair was severely damaged, dry, brittle, and I was suffering from a hell lot of hairfall (because of the Matrix Opticare range). The Dove Intense Repair shampoo and conditioner has been my saviour! I’ve been using this range for more than 6 weeks now, and the hair-fall is reduced by upto 95%, my hair looks much better now, and split ends are also reduced (split end reduction is more visible, probably because I started using this after a hair-cut). But all in all, I am loving this shampoo and conditioner for now. No complaints as such, other than the fact that these are loaded with chemicals.
Pros of Dove Intense Repair shampoo and conditioner:
·         My hair looks shiny (probably because of the silicones in these L)
·         Reduction in split ends
·         Major reduction in hair fall. So if you don’t have hair-fall, you can be sure that using these won’t result in hair fall J
·         Controls frizz moderately
·         Nourishes the hair, making them soft to touch
·         Pocket-friendly price
·         Easily available everywhere
·         Travel friendly packaging
Cons of Dove Intense Repair shampoo and conditioner:
·         Lots of chemicals, including silicones
Verdict: Do try Dove Intense Repair shampoo and conditioner if you have dry, damaged hair.
Rating: Overall rating for Dove Intense Repair shampoo and conditioner: 8.5/10

Livon Silky potion (detangling fluid) review

Hi girls. I’m reviewing another hair serum today. It’s the famous Livon silky potion, that one product which introduced the concept of ‘hair serum’ to Indian girls. I remember being in school when this was launched, and oh my! Such a craze it was during those days. The TV commercial used to show a lady with very long hair struggling with combing/ detangling her hair after shampoo, and then her husband/ kids offered the Livon silky potion, and she could comb her hair in one go!!! AND, I also remember my dad buying this potion for mom for the same reasons as the commercial: woman with very long hair, struggling with tangled hair after each shampoo… hihihihhiii…

So during some of those times, I used this serum, but didn’t know of any other similar products, so I obviously liked it. Now that I have ‘graduated to more expensive products’ (my friends Sakshi and Surabhi use this phrase for me quite often now!), I can compare it with other products available in the market. Here’s my take on the Livon Silky potion.
About Livon*: Almost every woman has to put up with frizzy, tangled, dry or dull hair. That’s why every girl needs Livon. Enriched with Vitamin E and a unique CutiSoft formula, Livon is perfect for every one who wants perfect hair. It gently detangles hair and reduces breakage, leaving behind a shiny, protective sheath that keeps your hair soft, shiny and beautiful. No matter what your hair type, Livon can set it free from almost every problem. So don’t let hair problems tear you and your hair apart. Fall in love with your hair again with Livon Silky Potion.

Price: Rs. 55 for 20mL

Packaging: The Livon Silky Potion comes in a tiny, clear, plastic bottle. The cardboard box that it comes in is so huge, youa re almost fooled into thinking that there will be a decent sized bottle inside. But its a very tiny bottle, which fits into the palm easily. The bottle has a round mouth to dispense the product, and a flip-top cap, which is pink-purple in color. The top shuts well, and the bottle seems travel friendly, though I never travelled with it, so I’m not too sure.

Ingredients:

Consistency/ texture/ fragrance: The Livon silky potion is a clear, runny liquid, which spreads on the palms and the hair easily. I do feel that this serum is stickier than the other hair serums that I’ve used. It has a mild fruity fragrance, which fades off minutes after application.

My experience with Livon Silky Potion: When I last used this potion around 8 years back , I used to love it, coz it was a one of a kind product in the Indian market then. I used other serums with tha passage of time, and I can now say that the Livon Silky Potion does not do anything substantial for the hair. I bought it at a time when I had finished using up my staple serum, and was looking for another one, to fill up the gap. But this is just a detangling fluid, and does not nourish/ condition the hair in any way. It spreads easily, but does not control frizz. Infact, it made my hair drier than usual.  All in all, I’m disappointed with Livon, because I have used much better serums than this one.

Some calculation now: a Matrix Biolage serum typically costs Rs. 255 for 100 mL. So it comes down to Rs. 2.5 per mL. And livon costs Rs. 55 for 20 mL, hence Rs. 2.75 per mL. Expensive, as it does nothing!
Pros:
·         Easy to use
·         Does not make hair sticky
·         Easily available
·         Pleasant fragrance
Cons:
·         Does not condition the hair
·         Does not tame frizz
·         Expensive! (check cost analysis above)
Verdict: Skip it! There are better fluids available, which actually work on the hair, and are better value for money.
Rating: 2/10
