Burt’s Bees Replenishing lip balm with Pomegranate Oil: Review

Hey everyone!

Today I’m reviewing my current favorite lip balm, Burt’s Bees Replenishing lip balm with Pomegranate Oil. Bought it from Sephora a few months back, and after having used it for more than 2 months now, here’s my review on the same.
PS: I love this lip balm!

About Burt’s Bees Replenishing lip balm with Pomegranate Oil: Bring your lips back to beautiful. This replenishing and hydrating natural lip balm is infused with the antioxidant goodness of pomegranate oil. It replenishes moisture to reveal smooth, healthy lips, while it coats them with a hint of color for an even-toned appearance.

Price: Rs. 400 for 4.25g

Packaging: The Burt’s Bees lip balm (Replenishing) come in a sleek yellow coloured twist-up tube, with a pomegranate colored cap. I prefer lip balms in tubes as opposed to potted products for reasons of hygiene! The cap is quite sturdy, shuts with a click, and hence the packaging is travel friendly.

My take on Burt’s Bees Replenishing lip balm with Pomegranate Oil: The lip balm is a pomegranate colored product, which swatches almost transparent. It has a soft, smooth consistency, but not as gooey and buttery like most other lip balms. I mean, it’s neither too stiff/ waxy, nor too balmy. It is something in between, and that’s what makes me love it! I do not like waxy lip balms which spread all around the lips a few minutes after application. So I love this Burt’s Bees lip balm on that front. The balm stays on the lips overnight, or for around 4 hours during the day. I’m okay with re-application, till the time it does what it claims. And, it does what it claims! It does make the lips feel soft and hydrated, and I have not had any problem of flaking lips (sometimes, Maybelline lip balms give me flaky lips when I apply too much). If I apply it at night, I wake up with soft lips the next morning. I do not have severely chapped lips (since I almost always use a lip balm, and drink enough water to keep the skin hydrated too), so I cannot say how it will work for those with severely chapped lips, but I’m pretty sure it won’t disappoint with severely chapped lips too. On  everyday wear-and-tear of the lips, it works fine with repairing the delicate skin on the lips.
The all natural ingredients add weightage to the ‘pros’. The light fruity fragrance is nice too, though it fades away in a few minutes after application, and does not bother my sensitive nose!
I just don’t see ANY color on swatching this lip balm, contrary to the claims :\

burts bees replenishing lip balm pomegranate oil swatch
Do you see any color there? 😛

Pros of Burt’s Bees Replenishing lip balm with Pomegranate Oil:

  • Smooth, soft consistency, not waxy!
  • Applies easily
  • Repairs lips and keeps them hydrated
  • Does not bleed out of the lips
  • Light fruity fragrance
  • Tube-type packaging makes application easy, non-messy!

Cons of Burt’s Bees Replenishing lip balm with Pomegranate Oil:

  • I see no color!
  • Limited availability in India (only at Sephora, New Delhi right now)

Verdict: An almost must-have lip balm, go for it if you prefer non-gooey products on the lips. It is, though, a little over-priced in India, as compared to it’s price abroad. So, take your call on the price. It does it’s job well, no doubts about that! So far, this is one of the best lip balms I’ve used. Also, my current favorite!

Chambor Rouge Plump+ lipstick- 701: Review, swatches, FOTD

Hey everyone!
If you have been following me on Facebook, you’d know that I have been on the lookout for a nice coral/orange lipcolor (well, not just ‘a’ lipcolor, more than one will do too :P). I recently picked up the Chambor Rouge Plump+ lipstick- 701, and while the color is perfect, there’s something not-so-right about this lipstick. Read on to know the details.
chambor rouge plump lipstick 701

chambor rouge plump lipstick 701 review
About Chambor Rouge Plump+ lipstick- 701: A lipstick isn’t just a lipstick anymore. With Chambor, it becomes your beauty secret that helps you get the desired result in plumpness, moisture, colour and

a lot more. The new Rouge Plump+ amplifies lips by 25% giving you sensuously full lips. This has been dermatologist tested and clinically proven.

Price: Rs. 745 for 2.5g
Packaging: The Chambor Rouge Plump+ lipsticks come in a rectangular, long lipstick case, with a leatherine feel to it, with a silver central rim. The lipstick bullet is slim and tall, and looks very chic. The packaging looks classy, and is travel friendly. The twisting mechanism of the bullet is a little cushiony, as in, when the lipstick bullet has retracted fully, the twisting thing seems to work even then, so, it gives a feeling that something is wrong with the bullet 🙁

Ingredients: Please refer to the picture below.
chambor rouge plump lipstick (1)
My take on Chambor Rouge Plump+ lipstick- 701: Shade 701 is a highly pigmented, almost opaque, burnt orange shade, minus any shimmer or glitter, and with a wee bit of ‘moist’ look. The shade is awesome, and very flattering for all complexions. On my dusky complexion, it looks good, and does not wash me out.
But hold on, all that, just on the bullet and hand swatch! You apply it to the lips, and turns out, this is just a tall lippie with taller claims, and nothing else! I mean, on the lips, it tends to look dry within seconds, not matte, dry! Then, it settles into lines, and looks patchy. Staying power is a meagre 2 hours on me. The texture of the lipstick is too soft, and is prone to crumbling.
When applied with a lip brush, the lipstick fares marginally better. Though I’m not mighty impressed!
I’m hoping that all the problems listed above are with this piece that I have got, and not the entire range 🙁
As for the plumping action, that is generally visible after atleast 2 weeks of regular usage, as per the SA, so I cannot comment upon that. It settles into fine lines, so I don’t think there’s any immediate plumping action here, logically speaking!
chambor rouge plump lipstick 701 swatch
chambor rouge plump lipstick 701 swatches
chambor rouge plump lipstick 701 swatch (1)
Lip swatch (applied lip balm on top)
Pros of Chambor Rouge Plump+ lipstick- 701:
  • Burnt-orange shade, universally flattering
  • No shimmer/ glitter
  • Classy packaging, travel friendly

Cons of Chambor Rouge Plump+ lipstick- 701:
  • Crumbly texture
  • Applies patchy, and settles into fine lines
  • Staying power of just about 2 hours
  • Transfers to coffee mugs
Also, I prefer my lipsticks to have a name rather than just a number. Gets easier to tell someone what lipstick you’re wearing, and one can ‘connect’ better with names instead of numbers 😛 Just a personal preference!

Verdict: For me, this lipstick is a big failure, texture wise, staying power wise, and for the fact that it settles into fine lines badly. The only thing I like about this lipstick is the shade, which I totally love!
Rating: 6/10, only for the shade and packaging.
Have you tried any lipcolors from this range? How was your experience? Please share with us all!
And, can you suggest some dupes for this shade? I really love it (the shade, I mean!)! Thanks 🙂

N.Y.X. Auto Lip pencil- Plum: Review, swatches

Hey everyone!
I’m a fan of lip pencils these days, more than lipsticks. Lip pencils offer more pigmentation and longer wear time on the lips as compared to lipsticks. Today I’m reviewing another lip pencil from NYX in the shade Plum. Read on!
nyx auto lip pencil plum

About N.Y.X. Auto Lip pencil: Add contour and dimension to your lips without the hassle of sharpening.  With a turn of the pen, the liner allows you to create even lines without pulling or tugging.  Containing coconut and seed oils, it defines as well as moisturize!

nyx auto lip pencil plum review
Price: $1.99 for 0.22g. Retails for Rs. 275-300 in India.

Packaging: The NYX Auto Lip Pencil is a non-sharpenable, twist-up lip pencil, which is retractable too. I don’t like non-retractable lip pencil. So this is one big plus for me! The cap is sturdy, and doesn’t come off in the handbag. The base of the pack is color coded.

nyx auto lip pencil plum reviews
Ingredients: Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Hydrogenated Coconut Oil, Ployglycerl-2 Trisostearate, Butyl Paraben, B.H.T., Zinc Stearate, Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide, D&C Red #7, D&C Red #6 Barium Lake, Ferric Ammonium Ferrocyanide, FD&C Blue #1, Aluminum Lake, Manganese Violet, Mica (and) Titanium Dioxide, Mica

nyx auto lip pencil plum (2)
nyx auto lip pencil plum (3)
My take on N.Y.X. Auto Lip pencil- Plum: This one is a true plummy lip liner. The product is quite pigmented, and would cover lip pigmentation too, and is easy to use (the packaging has a role to play here). Texture wise, it’s a little dry, but then a lip pencil is meant to be that way. I usually apply a lip balm on my lips before lining (rather, filling) the lips, so I don’t face much of a problem there. Alone, the lip liner (when used to fill lips as a lipstick) stays for about 3 hours. When worn under a lipstick, it prolongs the staying power of those.

nyx auto lip pencil plum swatch
The shade, I feel, is on the darker side of the spectrum, and will flatter a lot of skin tones. Though I think the shade adds some years to one’s face. It could just be me, though! Young adults may totally skip this shade, imo!
My only qualm with this product is, the quantity that you get is almost negligible :\
Here’s how NYX Plum compares with MAC Plum: See how the NYX Plum is more plummy than the MAC Plum.
nyx auto lip pencil plum swatches
Pros of N.Y.X. Auto Lip pencil- Plum:
  • Deep plummy shade, will suit a lot of complexions
  • Non-sharpenable, saves product wastage
  • Good staying power
  • Prolongs staying power of lipsticks worn over it
  • Easy to use packaging
Cons of N.Y.X. Auto Lip pencil- Plum:
  • Quantity is way too less… Not even half a gram 🙁
  • Drying texture if used alone
Verdict: The NYX Auto Lip Pencil is a decent lip pencil. If you are looking for a plummy lip liner/ filler, check this one out. Works well as a lip color too, topped with some balm/ gloss.

Rating: 8/10

M.A.C. Lip Pencil- Plum: Review, swatches

Hey everyone!

Today I’m reviewing *ahemm* my most expensive lip pencil till date! I was recommended this lip pencil by the MUA when I did my MAC make-up training. I didn’t buy it then, and I dunno why I bought it the last time I went to MAC. Anyways, here’s my take on the Plum lip pencil from MAC.

mac lip pencil plum

About M.A.C. Lip Pencil- Plum: A pencil designed for shaping, lining or filling in the lip. Lip Pencils have a smooth, creamy texture that is perfect for lining the lips or filling them in. They are long-lasting and available in a wide selection of colours that each work well with many different lipstick shades.

Price: Rs. 950 for 1.45g

Packaging: The M.A.C. Lip Pencils come in a simple, classic MAC packaging, black carton with white print. The pencil is a simple wooden, sharpenable pencil with the product inside. It has a black cap, and no sharpener is included in the pack.

Ingredients: Please check the pic below.

mac lip pencil plum ingredients

My take on M.A.C. Lip Pencil- Plum: MAC describes ‘Plum’ as ‘potent reddened plum’
You all know by now that I have pigmented lips, and I am always on the lookout for products which can help neutralize the pigmentation on the lips, and help other lighter colors show through. When I attended the MAC make-up training, the MUA suggested I opt for the Plum lip pencil as a base for my lips (I don’t think my lips are plumy, but still, that’s how colors work). So I bought this pencil some time back, and I am in love with the shade ever since. It’s a gorgeous reddish-brown lip pencil, not really a plum on swatching. It is smooth in application, and soft (does not pull the skin on the lips as it glides), and the pigmentation is great. One swipe, and you have a lot of color.
I use it to line the lips, and to fill in too, since I mainly use this one as a base. Sometimes, I let the gorgeous color show through, and just apply a hint of clear gloss on top, so the lip-liner turns to a creamy lipstick. The texture alone may be a bit drying on the lips, but then lip liners are meant to be that way! If you love a lip-liner as such, a gloss or balm on top is a must!

The staying power is a good 6+ hours on me, with meals in between. It does fade a bit with time, though. It also increases the staying power of other lipsticks when worn under them.

My only grudge with this product is that some product always gets wasted when the pencil is sharpened, and that really pinches me in the heart (it’s a MAC lip pencil, afterall. Wastage will hurt!).

Anyways, I love how this shade works for my NC-45 skin-tone, and I guess the shade will look even more gorgeous on those with lighter skin tone or with non-pigmented lips.

mac lip pencil plum swatches

In the below pic, I have worn this lip pencil over a coat of balm on my lips:

mac lip pencil plum lip swatch

Pros of M.A.C. Lip Pencil- Plum:
·         Gorgeous shade
·         The shade works as a nice base color for those with pigmented lips
·         Smooth in application. no pulling and tugging
·         Stays for a good 6+ hours
·         Will suit all skin-tones alike!

Cons of M.A.C. Lip Pencil- Plum:
·         Some product gets wasted each time you sharpen the pencil
I’m not listing ‘texture’ as a con, since lip liners are meant to be a little dry. Also, price, for obvious reasons!

Verdict: If you are looking for a base lip-pencil for your pigmented lips, do try this one! Totally worth the money!

Rating: 9/10

Maybelline ColorSensational Moisture Extreme lipcolor- Summer Sunset: Review, swatches, LOTD, FOTD

Hi girls!

Red lips, anyone?
Lemme start by asking you all a question.. Have you tried a red lipstick yet? I’m sure you have! Would you believe me if I told you that I first tried a red lipstick only last year, after, ahemm, 25+ years of age? I bet you wouldn’t.
Well, the first red lipstick that I tried was MAC Viva Glam-I, which you can see on me HERE.
And since I wasn’t too sure about spending almost 1000 bucks on a red lipstick, I bought a budget red. I am still experimenting and hunting down for the closest dupe of MAC Viva Glam I, but here’s presenting my official first red lipstick.
*Drumrolls* please!

maybelline colorsensational lipstick summer sunset review

About Maybelline Colorsensational- Summer Sunset:

·         Fall in love with color, all over again: Crisp Color from pure color pigments
·         Creamy Feel, with a built in lip balm
·         SPF 15 for sun protection
·         16 Captivating Shades

Price: Rs. 220 for 4g

Packaging: The Maybelline Colorsensational moisture extreme lipstick- Summer Sunset comes in a cute red coloured case with a metallic silver rim/ bullet cover. The cap shuts with a soft snap, and the shade description is written at the base of the lipstick. It is a travel friendly packaging.

Ingredients: Not mentioned.

maybelline colorsensational lipstick summer sunset2

maybelline colorsensational lipstick summer sunset3

maybelline colorsensational lipstick summer sunset swatch

My take on Maybelline Colorsensational lipstick- Summer Sunset: Well, this one’s an out-and-out bold, tomato red lipstick. It really is very red! Not for the faint hearted! You can also call it a bridal red, but not a red-carpet red! I know I’m confusing you here with my blabber!
Ok, so this is a tomato-red lipstick, with superb pigmentation which covers lip pigmentation. It glides onto the lips like butter (too soft for summers). As is customary with red lipsticks, it does bleed from the edges of the lips, but that can be taken care of by lining the lips with a lip liner.
It gives a soft sheen to the lips, which stays for about half an hour. It is pretty good at moisturising the lips, but for about 2 hours only. Overall, the staying power is around 3 hours on me.

·         Smooth, creamy texture
·         Almost opaque pigmentation
·         Moisturises the lips too
·         Decent staying power
·         Affordable price
·         Easily available

·         A lip-liner is needed to keep the lipstick from bleeding

Verdict: This can be the perfect red for you. It all actually depends on what kinda red you’re looking for. But if you like the shade, I think rest everything is good.

Rating: 9/10

Lakme Enrich lipcolor- 652 Sugarbloom- Review, swatches

Hi girls. Today I’m reviewing the Lakme Enrich lipcolor- 652 Sugarbloom. Let’s head on straight to the lippie from the brand that we all can identify our childhood make-up stories with.

Lakme Enrich lipcolor- 652 Sugarbloom

About Lakme Enrich lipcolor- 652 Sugarbloom*:

·         Richest satin color

·         Amazing satin texture

·         Cast a spell in satin. Rich color takes life in a luxuriously creamy stick that brings satin to your lips.

·         Enriched with sunscreens, vitamins and the goodness of olives, your lips will have a story to share. Indulge in a pod of beautiful shades ranging from floral pinks to shimmering peaches.

Lakme Enrich lipcolor- 652 Sugarbloom (1)
Price: Rs. 225 for 4.4mL

Packaging: The Lakme Enrich lipcolor come in the standard purple-brown, rectangular case, with a golden central rim. The packaging has been like this since many years now, and I find it to be a little boring. The case shuts with a satisfactory click, and is safe to be carried in the hand-bag.

Lakme Enrich lipcolor- 652 Sugarbloom (2)
Shade/ texture/ fragrance: The Lakme Enrich lipcolor- 652 Sugarbloom is a nude-pink lip color, without any shimmer/ glitter particles. The texture of the lipstick is smooth, although it’s not very smooth, and it has a weird smell that I just can’t ignore.

Lakme Enrich lipcolor- 652 Sugarbloom swatch

My experience with Lakme Enrich lipcolor- 652 Sugarbloom: This is one of those regret-buys for me. The shade looks awesome on swatching on the back of the hand, but on my pigmented lips, it just doesn’t show up. The pigmentation of the lips completely drinks up the shade. The shade is also too light for my dusky skin-tone (NC 45) and it washes me off, so much so that I start looking ill. Staying power is average, 2 hours, and the lipcolor is not moisturising, so girls with dry lips may want to skip this.

I have 2 more lipcolors from this range, will review those too, asap.

Please forgive the flaky lips in the below pics.

Lakme Enrich lipcolor- 652 Sugarbloom lip swatch (1)
Lakme Enrich lipcolor- 652 Sugarbloom lip swatch (2)
Pros of Lakme Enrich lipcolor- 652 Sugarbloom:

·         Nice packaging

·         Price is on the affordable side

·         Easily available

Cons of Lakme Enrich lipcolor- 652 Sugarbloom:

·         The lipstick smells and tastes weird

·         The shade washed me out, so it is not apt for dusky beauties.

·         Not meant for those with dry lips

Verdict: Lakme Enrich lipcolor- 652 Sugarbloom can be the HG nude lipstick for girls with a fair skin tone. Dusky beauties may completely skip this shade!

Rating: For dusky beauties: 2/10, for others: 6/10

MAC Satin lipstick- Retro: review, swatches

Hey girls!
Today I’m reviewing my first lippie from MAC. I bought the MAC Satin lipstick- Retro, since this season, peaches and corals have ruled the fashion and make-up scene worldwide. Read on!

About MAC Satin Lipstick- Retro: MAC describes Retro as a muted peachy-pinky brown!

Price: Rs. 990 for a 3g bullet

Packaging: The MAC Satin lipstick- Retro comes in the classic MAC packaging. The lipstick comes in a black cardboard box with white lettering. Inside, the bullet’s outer case is a matte black, plastic case with subtle silver glitter, a silver central rim, and a curved cap. The words M.A.C. are engraved in silver on the cap. The shade name can be found on the bottom of the case. I love this kind of classic packaging from MAC.

Shade/ texture/ fragrance: The MAC Satin lipstick- Retro is a peachy-pinky brown, as per MAC, but on my pigmented lips, it looks like a reddish-peachy brown. On the wrist, it looks like a peachy-pinky brown, though. But the shade is still lovely, and will suit all skin-tones, IMO. This lipstick has  a very smooth, buttery texture, and has the typical MAC’s vanilla fragrance to it.

Without flash

With flash

My experience with MAC Satin lipstick- Retro: the shade is quite pigmented, and goes opaque in one swipe. 2 swipes further intensify the shade. It does not settle into fine lines on the lips, and is not drying for the lips. On days when I don’t want a deep hue on my face, I lightly dab the lipstick bullet on the lips, after applying lip-balm, to get a light, peachy-brown tint on the lips, and I’m good to go. So this lippie can be worn as a tint too.
It covers lip-pigmentation completely, and stays on for a good 5 hours. It survives full-meals too, though it does tend to fade a bit with food, but who mind re-applying?
Retro is that one shade which can be worn both during the day and night, and goes well with formals and Indian wear too.

Pros of MAC Satin lipstick- Retro:

·         Very versatile shade! Can be used on its own, or as a tint.
·         Smooth, buttery texture
·         Very good pigmentation, goes opaque in one swipe
·         Very good staying power (around 4-5 hours)
·         Classic packaging, easy to carry!
·         Nice vanilla smell
Cons of MAC Satin lipstick- Retro:
·         Pricey, definitely!
·         MAC is not available in all cities in India, nor is it available online here as yet!
Verdict: I love it, and you’ll love it too! If you’re into pinky-browns, do check it out at the store next time!
Rating: 9/10

Sunday Pampering: Chapped lips, and how to tackle them

Hi girls!
Hows the weekend going for you all. I have decided on staying at home this weekend, and just lazing around. Hectic work schedules are taking a toll on me, for now, so I’m resting this weekend.

Coming to the post, chapped lips can be a problematic situation for anyone. Each one of us must have suffered from chapped lips at some or the other point in time.

What causes chapped lips?

  1. Dehydration: if you have been drinking less water of late, it is going to show up through your lips. SO if your lips are feeling dry/ chapped, grab that water bottle right NOW! Staying in air-conditioned environment all the time also leads to dehydration.
  2. Change in season: sometimes, when the season is changing, the lips get chapped because of the change in moisture levels in the atmosphere.
  3. Diet: lots of junk food int he diet will lead to a system-imbalance and dehydration, leading to chapped lips.
  4. Health problems: many health problems, followed by the medication, can lead to dry and ultimately chapped lips.
Solutions for chapped lips:

  1. Drink lots of water. The day you start doing this, you will see an improvement in the condition of your lips. I always keep a one-litre bottle full of water on my table in office, so that I don’t forget drinking water. It is a kind of visual reminder. And I aim to finish off atleast one bottle before lunch time. So, I drink 2 litres of water when in the office.
  2. If you have a habit of licking/ biting your lips, STOP!
  3. Apply a generous coat of petroleum jelly/ lip-balm to the lips before sleeping.
  4. Next morning, gently exfoliate your lips using a mild lip-scrub. Mix a teaspoon of sugar granules with water, and use it to scrub off dead skin from the lips. alternatively, you may use your toothbrush to exfoliate the lips. Be very gentle while doing so.
  5. Again, apply a coat of petroleum jelly/ lip balm on the lips to maintain moisture levels.
  6. Wait for 10 minutes before applying lipstick, if you have to. Use moisturising lipsticks.
  7. You may also apply honey, clarified butter (ghee), glycerine to the lips for the same effects as petroleum jelly. The effects would be similar, just that petroleum jelly is easier to carry around in the hand-bag.
  8. During the day, keep applying lip-balm every 2-3 hours to keep lips hydrated.
  9. Always use good quality lip-balms, lipsticks and other products for the lips.
So, what’s your secret tip for chapped lips? Have you ever tackled them? If yes, how? Share with us all in the comments below:)

Maybelline Colorsensational lipcolor- 455 Mauve-ulous- Review

Hey beauties!!!!
How are the preparations for rakshabandhan coming along? What plans for tomorrow?

Today I’m reviewing the Maybelline Colorsensational lipcolor- Mauve-ulous. It’s a gorgeous plumy lipcolor, and I own 2 of them. I bought one for myself, and another one for mom!

About Maybelline Colorsensational lipcolor- Mauve-ulous: Crisper color from pure pigments. Creamier feel from nourishing honey nectar.

Price: Rs. 299 for 4g

Packaging: The colorsensational lipcolors from Maybelline come in a rectangular case, with a translucent lid, corresponding to the color-family of the lipstick inside. This one has a pink-purple lid.

Color: The lipstick is a gorgeous plumy-pink! It goes well with almost all dresses, and is best worn in the evenings. For day-time, I think the shade is a bit on the darker side.

With flash

Without flash

Without flash
Texture: The texture is very smooth, creamy. It glides on the lips like butter!

My experience: I love the shade, though I am a bit disappointed with the staying power of all lipsticks from Maybelline. They do not stay for more than 2 hours, and this one is no exception. Though, adding a layer of lip-liner underneath (on the entire lip-area) does increase the staying power to 3 hours, but that’s it. It is quite moisturising, and I skip the lip-balm under this. also, the shade is very pigmented, and can be worn as a light tint too, with some lip balm/ clear gloss.

The shade goes amazingly well with Indian wear, and will complement all skin tones. If you are afraid of darker colors, you can start with this one!

Here’s how this looks on me:

Under white light-without flash

·        Very pigmented color (covers lip pigmentation too)

·        Smooth texture

·        Glides on the lips easily

·        Moisturising formula

·        Chic packaging

·        Easily available

·        Poor staying power

·        No ingredients list

·        Maybelline tests on animals

Verdict: Even with the low staying power, I’d say do try this shade/ range from Maybelline. After all, what more can you want at this price?
