Olay Total Effects- 14 days’ challenge: Outcome!

Hey everyone!

Some time back, I went on the Olay Total Effects 14 days’ challenge. Today I’m sharing with you all the outcome of that challenge, so read on!

olay total effects

My concerns: I am 27 years of age, with very oily skin, dullness and some pigmentation around the chin. Also, with time, the pores around the T-zone (between the cheeks and the nose) have started to enlarge. This season (Delhi winters), for the first time, I’ve seen very dry, flaky patches around the outer side of the cheeks. Blame it on the weather here, and ageing. Plus, I was on strong medication a few days back. Let’s see whether these products worked on me or not 🙂

Anti ageing myths and facts: Interaction with Dr. Simal Soin

Hey everyone!

A few days back, I was invited for an interaction with renowned dermatologist, Dr. Simal Soin from Three Graces by the Olay team. And I must say, the interaction with Dr. Soin was really helpful, and an eye opener in many ways.

dr simal soin

During a detailed candid chat with her, she touched upon all aspects of anti-ageing, especially anti-ageing in girls as young as in their 20’s, and some other aspects of skin ageing in the Indian population. Read some excerpts below 🙂

Her thoughts on skin aging: Myths or Reality?

When asked, Indian women in their 20’s usually deny seeing any signs of ageing in the mirror. This is because when they think of skin aging, only one thing comes to mind: fine lines and wrinkles. And according to them, these should only appear between the ages of 35 and 40.

A note to your skin?

Hey everyone!

I was just wondering today, what if we could write a letter to our skin, like we write a letter to each other? Or even a short SMS to the skin? Just a random note to the skin saying- hey, I love you!

Lakmé Cleanup Clear Pores: Let your skin be rain-ready this monsoon

Don’t let the monsoon dampen your passion to look and feel great. Sure, the excess humidity in the air during this season can damage your skin, making it look dull and lifeless, so it is very important for us to adjust our skin regime in the monsoon. Here are certain tips to ensure you enjoy radiant glowing skin in monsoons as well!

lakme clean up pores range

·         Cleansing your Skin in the Monsoons: Because of the moisture that is prevalent in the air, your skin is constantly clammy and damp. This attracts more grime and dust than usual; which is the reason you will see your skin erupt into blackheads and whiteheads during this season. You need to be extra careful about cleansing your skin without stripping it of its natural moisture. The cleansing agent should be gentle and yet, it should be strong enough to remove every trace of dust and dirt from your skin.

·         Hydrate:Drinks loads of water. This is one of the best ways to attain healthy and flawless skin, irrespective of the season. Water consumption hydrates your body and flushes out all the unwanted toxins.

·         Toning your Skin During the Monsoons

Microbes in water and airborne bacteria play havoc with your skin during the rainy season. It is absolutely essential to use a toner so that you can maintain the natural pH balance of your skin.

·         Exfoliating

In the monsoon season, it is important to keep your skin dirt free by exfoliating skin from time to time. Scrub gently twice a week to get rid of dead cells, unclog pores, remove blackheads and achieve clear matte skin. Try out the new Lakmé Clean-Up Clear Pores Scrub.

·         Mask: Mask is great way to condition, clean or treat the skin. Use a face mask at least once a week depending on your skin type. Face masks help soothe the skin, get rid of inflammation issues and breakouts. Lakmé Clean-Up Clear Pores Glow Mask with the absorbing power of clay helps remove excess oil and tighten pores. This helps soothe your skin, prevent breakouts and fight blemishes.

·         Moisturizing: Skin becomes dehydrated during the monsoon which is why you must moisturize it regularly. Choose a skin moisturizer according to your skin type. Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before you step out of your home to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.

About the product: Caress and cleanse skin in one scented sweep with Lily Bath & Shower Gel. This delicately fragranced, gently cleansing gel creates a smooth lather in the shower, brilliant bubbles in the bath and a splash of luxury in your daily routine.
  • Lily of the valley, peony, magnolia and elderflower extracts help condition skin
  • Contains moisturising glycerine
  • Formulated without mineral oil, parabens, phthalates, propylene glycol or sodium lauryl sulfate
Packaging: The shower gel comes in a tall, white, cuboidal plastic bottle with a white screw-on cap. Travel friendly packaging, and pleasing to look at. Sits pretty on the shelf 😛
My experience: The shower gel is a light green colored, runny product. It has a mild fragrance, that of lilies, with a hint of citrus. A very pleasing, relaxing experience for the senses, it reminds me of ‘Spring’! It lathers well on a wet loofah, and gets washed off from the skin without much effort, leaving it squeaky clean. No slippery feeling on the skin once the gel is washed off. Does not dry out the skin. A must-have from this range!
Crabtree & Evelyn Lily body lotion

About the product: Drench dry skin with our Lily Body Lotion. A blend of Lily’s fresh woodland fragrance and nourishing moisturisers, this lightweight lotion is infused with extracts of lily of the valley, elderflower, magnolia and peony to help condition your skin. So it’s left soft, scented and ready to face the day.
  • Apply after a bath or shower to lock in moisture
  • Contains shea butter and evening primrose, almond and coconut oils
  • Formulated without mineral oil, parabens, phthalates or propylene glycol
Packaging: The body lotion is packed in a squeezy-tube, with a screw-on cap. It is travel friendly.
PS: If you buy the full-sized product, it comes with a pump dispenser.
My experience: The lotion is a creamy, thick product, which has a smooth texture and spreads easily. It is non-sticky, and gets absorbed into the skin wihtout much effort. It doesn’t heavily moisturise, but since I have normal (read not-so-dry) body skin, this lotion alone works for me. For those with dry skin, this alone may not suffice for body moisturiser. It has a peasant fargrance, that of lilies, a little bit stronger than the shower gel, and more on the heavier side because it has shea butter and other oils. On my skin, the moisturiser keeps the skin in a good condition till the next shower.

crabtree and evelyn lily triple milled soap (1)
About the product: We use a traditional soap making technique to craft our Lily Triple-Milled Soap. We blend in shea and cocoa butters, and wheat germ, rose hip and evening primrose oils to give your skin gentle cleansing, softening moisture and a light, refreshing scent.
  • Triple-milled for lasting fragrance
  • Suited to all skin types
  • Formulated without parabens, phthalates, mineral oil or propylene glycol
Packaging: The cutest looking cardoard box, inside which is the soap.
My experience: The soap is a light green colored product. It lathers well, and leaves the skin feeling smooth. Does not dry out the skin. It has the strongest fragrance amongst the three products, but on the skin, it translates to a milder one. Stays for some time after shower.
******
Verdict: Overall, I’m quite in love with this kit, and I’d whole heartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a floral bath range with a hint of cirtus. It is also the perfect kit in case you want to gift it to someone. Highly recommended!

Sunday Pamperings: DIY Ubtan

Hey everyone!
Here’s sharing with you all a simple DIY, the traditional Ubtan recipe. A recipe known in India since time immemorial, it works effectively on skin blemishes, pigmentation, tanning, un-even skin tone. It gives a glow to the skin like no other skin product, and is one of the best anti-tan remedies.
home made ubtan

The only catch is that, like other home-made treatments, this one too takes some time to show results.
You need;
  • a pinch of turmeric (Haldi). Just be careful to not pick turmeric from the regular spice-rack at home. You should keep some turmeric separate at all times. You don’t want chilli-mixed turmeric on your face 😛
  • 1-2 tablespoons chick-pea flour (Besan
  • Curd (2-3 tablespoons)
  • A few drops of fresh lemon juice

Steps: Mix all ingredients together to form a smooth paste.

The application is easy. Just apply the paste/ ubtan to cleansed face (leaving out the eye and mouth area), and leave for 15 minutes. Wash off after 15 minutes.
Repeat twice a week for best results. Expect to see results in atleast 2 weeks.

It is advisable to prepare a fresh batch for each application.
Avoid too much of turmeric, or the skin may get stained.

Happy Sunday!
